What is the Mash Them Up? (back to top)

Mash Them Up is a mashup game mixing live data feeds.
It uses Flickr’s pictures to create some original enemies and bosses in a Shoot them up game.
So Mash whatever your imagination could tell you, and then shoot them up!

How to create a Mash Them Up? (back to top)

Set as many levels as you wish then fulfill them with many types of enemies and bosses!
Each level contains some enemies, a boss, and a reward.
Those three items can be customized with Flickr's photos.

Set your enemies (back to top)

For each enemy, you can define its appearance, choose its type (Shooter, QuickShooter, HeavyShooter...etc.),
its behavior (Attack, Flee, Neutral... etc.) and many details.

Enter a Flickr's tag or Flickr URL in text field, Mash Them Up will search some pictures matching
what you filled in tag search. Check out for funny tags you’ll get some funny enemies!
(By default all tags are set with ‘kittens’).


Note: Please fulfill appearance text field only with letters and digits.

You can choose between different types of enemies including HeavyShooter, Kamikaze... etc.
Note each type of enemies matches with a preset of details.



Set your enemies details (back to top)

If you want to define precisely your enemies, you can modify their details.



Set details: Health

Health defines how many shots you'll need to crush your opponent.


Set details: Weight

Weight defines your opponent's inertia which will influence on how fast your opponent will aim your spacecraft.


Set details: Size

Set size of your enemies in pixel.


Set details: Start

Start defines the moment in seconds when your opponent will appear on the level for the first time.


Set details: Speed

Speed defines how fast your opponent will move.


Set details: Shoot Rate

Define how many shots your enemies can fire per seconds.


Set details: Max onscreen

Max onscreen defines the maximum number of enemies which can be displayed at the same time on the screen.


Set details: Duration

Duration defines the duration of your enemies' waves.
If you set 5 seconds of Duration, enemies will be spawned during 5 seconds.


Choose behavior of your enemies (back to top)

You can choose between different behaviors of your enemies. Those behaviors define their moves around your spacecraft.


Add or Remove some enemies (back to top)

On the left of the panel you can click on 'add enemy' button to add some enemies.
On the top right of the panel you have a cross button which remove enemies.




Set your boss (back to top)

A game without boss is not really a game. So you can define a boss! (one per level).
Once, you've defeated the boss, you pass the level, and get the reward.
You can set your boss appeareance, type, behavior and details, as you set your enemies.
Boss and enemies have same details but there're no Max Onscreen and Duration for the Boss.



Define your reward (back to top)

At the bottom of a level's frame, you have a little field text 'reward'. Fill in with Flickr Tag or Flickr URL.
Once boss defeated you'll get an image matching what you set in reward text field.



Set your level's color (back to top)

On bottom right of a level settings you can set your level's color for each level.
So you with all this tools, you can create a terrifying kamikaze in a dark world or a pinky universe with small cute balloons.



Add and Remove some levels (back to top)

You can add and remove some levels with 'add level' and 'remove level' buttons.
You can create some new levels in your game. Once you added a level you can add some enemies, define enemies and boss like above.

Test your game (back to top)

Before save your game you can preview it and test it.

When your game is set, click on 'Preview' button and have a look of your game. Play it, and watch if you need to modify it again.



Edit (back to top)

If you need to modify it, on the preview, click on 'Edit' button. Then you'll get back on the Mash Them Up Creation Tool.

How to Play a Mash Them Up? (back to top)

Use your mouse, left-click to shoot, guide your space ship to shoot enemies dodge theirs shots
and Defeat the boss to win the game, get your reward and go to next level.

Acknowledged bugs (back to top)

Mash Them Up is a Beta Version, so it still contains some bugs:

    Here is a list:
  • When nothing is fulfilled in enemies or boss, or reward text field's your game is empty.
  • Right click on the game, 'Lecture' option could have a weird behavior
  • Set too much enemies, can make preview lag.
